March 3, 2019 - Jewelry emphasizes fashion, unique and exquisite craftsmanship, but high-quality jewelry often needs a longer development cycle. The ever-changing innovative technology just breaks through the restrictions of the industry and strives for excellence. The 36th Hong Kong International Jewelry Fair, sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Bureau (HKTDC), is being held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It was held a few days ago (March 1). A jewelry industry forum was held and four industry leaders were invited to share the new trend of innovative technology application in the jewelry industry and help the industry to enhance its competitiveness under the theme of "From Manufacturing to Retail: How Science and Technology Reshape the Jewelry Industry".

Computer Aided Design Technology to Shorten Jewelry Production Cycle and Reduce Cost.Exhibition hall design

The core member of IAJMPP and the French software developer 3DESIGN represent Wu Wenguang in the development of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for more than 30 years. He points out that the jewelry industry is regarded as a "hand-made industry", and craftsmanship is an important part of product value, so unlike other industries, CAD and CAM are different. Technology has not been widely used in the jewelry industry in the early 2000's. Until 2013, jewelry sales continued to decline, global jewelers began to focus on resources, research and development of how to improve design and production through CAD and CAM technology.

Wu Wenguang said that the jewelry industry is facing the challenges of high production costs, shortage of jewelry designers, low volume and tight delivery. CAD software greatly reduces costs and improves production efficiency. "Especially in the design process, the design that used to take 10 days to complete is now completed in one hour and can be released immediately. Wu Wenguang pointed out that new technologies have also revolutionized marketing channels. Customers can now design their own jewelry through online applications, choose colors, shapes, precious stones and metals according to their preferences, and companies can also instantly release product videos to target customers on social platforms.Exhibition hall design

3D jewelry printing technology is mature and directly applied to large-scale production

Another technology discussed at the forum is 3D printing. Wang Zhi, co-founder of Jiangsu Totes Science and Technology, said that 3D printing technology is particularly important in prototype production and mass production mode. It greatly shortens the production cycle of jewellers. With the maturity of technology, the latest printers can print gold and silver materials directly with high precision. However, he pointed out that only at present. There are a few jewelry giants who can afford the huge cost of mass production with 3D printing technology, including expensive printing instruments and huge factory costs. However, he believes that with the rapid development of technology, more jewellers will benefit from 3D printing technology in the future.

Mobile Applications Make Everyone a Jewelry Designer

"Everyone can be a jewelry designer," said Lo Zhiang, founder of La Salle de Fabrication, who shared how to use mobile applications to find business opportunities at the seminar. "He introduced the mobile application developed by the company to the live audience. By simply describing or providing a jewelry design sketch, the company could design unique jewelry according to their ideas, from design to jewelry, in only 10 days.

In the question-and-answer session, Lu Zhiang also said that at present, the main users of their platform are working women and people aged 50 to 60. In the future, he hopes to reach more young consumers through social platforms.

Tencent Big Data Provides Smart Retail Solutions for Jewelry Industry

Intelligent retailing is sweeping all walks of life. Tencent Intelligent Retail Operations Director Lisa explains how to use AI and big data to provide a series of tools for jewellers in China, including Wechat Payment, QR Code Scanning and Face Recognition technology, to reshape the retail business model.

According to Lisa, Tencent now uses mobile phone data from a large number of Wechat customers to analyze consumer behavior in retail stores in various industries in China, including the time, location, types of goods purchased and payment methods. Jewellers can improve their marketing efficiency by using big data.

Lisa also pointed out that Tencent's smart retail business focuses on finding problems for customers and providing solutions. After analyzing the industry's big data, Tencent will also recommend solutions to improve marketing, such as how to change the location of shelves and display hot commodities. It will also develop mini-applications for small retailers and connect with members through the Wechat platform, combining online and offline marketing strategies.Exhibition hall design
